T&S Brass has introduced an update to its product line aimed at taking the worry, hassle and expense out of making a common plumbing retrofit.
T&S is incorporating checks into all of its faucets as they are redesigned with updated aesthetics. Spring checks are built into the Eterna cartridge, and the Cerama cartridge comes with an integral check valve.
These checks, which protect against dangerous cross flow, were previously installed only when the faucet was intended to be used with a hose. With this change, retrofitting a faucet with a hose will no longer require a cartridge change.
Cross flow, the crossover of water from one temperature line to the other, happens when an outlet has an obstruction such as a spray valve or simple garden hose attached and the valve is left turned on for convenience. Water demand from other areas can diminish water pressure in one line, typically the cold, while the hot water remains at the higher PSI. Without the protection of a spring check or check valve to block the flow, hot water can bleed into the cold line inside the faucet body and eventually leave water fountains or toilet bowls steaming.
When facility use or demands change and a hose needs to be added to a faucet that wasn’t previously designed for it, this T&S feature means there’s no worry about introducing cross flow and no need to order and replace cartridges.
This change reduces inconvenience and cost for everyone involved in planning for and operating a facility, from plumbing engineers to building owners.
